lin onis is an award winning indigenous artist from melbourne australia. he is of scotish and Wiradjuri descent, which is the largest aboriginal group in new south wales. this painting of turtles is one of my favourites. i like there elongated necks and how onis has painted there shells to look like tribal shields. there very directionaly uniform and make me think of a marching army. the Waradjuri people are known for there strong hunting skills and for there family ties and kinship. this painting to me shows strong ties to those key components of onis's tribe.
Lin Onis is also a great maker of prints, sculptures and instalation artworks. above is a fibreglass sculpture of a dingo giving birth to three pups. onis has a great ability to have both his sculpted and painted work match. all his work looks like its from the same story he is writting.
